Marcus W. Brauchli, a former top editor of The Wall Street Journal, will succeed Leonard Downie Jr.

Leonard Downie Jr. will step down after 17 years as the top editor of The Washington Post, making way for a generational transition under a new publisher.

Not only does the White House expect a new leader by next year, but so does The Washington Post.
